Farm Description:
Bread & Roses Homestead utilizes Permaculture Design to go beyond sustainable and provide a regenerative model of living in Monroe County. Living in and learning from the forests around us, we aim to mimic natural patterns and build a system that provides the necessities of living simply. In the process, we hope to engage community members in active, hands-on learning by offering educational workshops and workdays. The main features of the homestead include edible forest gardening, mixed livestock raising, alternative energy production, passive solar design, alternative building, rainwater catchment and much more. Check out the LGG video on our approach! Bread & roses Nursery is a source of local, naturally grown perennials with a focus on edible and useful species. This includes fruits, berries & nuts, medicinal and culinary herbs, native wildflowers, and so much more. Many of these plants serve multiple functions and uses in the landscape and people’s lives – a cornerstone of the Permaculture philosophy that guides the nursery. The nursery also offers consultation, design, and implementation services to the Bloomington area. We help home owners transition lawn to productive and diverse landscapes that grow healthy food and habitat For more details about plants and service we offer, please visit our website
