Consumer Suported Agriculture (CSA) Programs

A CSA is a subscription program where community members sign up for the growing season and agree to pay a fixed fee for a weekly (or biweekly) delivery of fresh produce. This relationship is great for consumers who need a regular supply of fresh produce with the ease of quick pick-up. It’s also great for farmers, who can better plan their growing season and can adjust the weekly food assortment according to the successes and failures of various crops.

Some CSA programs are simply designed as subscription programs where subscribers pay their subscription fee and in exchange receive their delivery of fresh produce every week. Others invite participants to put in a little "sweat equity" by helping out on the farm either in the fields or sorting produce for CSA boxes or helping make the actual deliveries. Most CSA programs offer some sort of farm day where subscribers can come out to see their food in the fields.
